Royal Melbourne Show

Went to the Royal Melbourne Show in the morning. Was supposed to leave at 12pm but due to some unforeseeable circumstances, we only left flinders st station at 1pm. Before that, we went around the city's post offices looking for the show's "concession" tickets. After that, headed to the train station to take an "express" train to the showgrounds. Waited for yenshan's friends from trinity, so i managed to get a box of "lord of the fries" to munch on. French canadian gravy rocks! Wanted to camwhore whilst waiting for the train, but due to the some strict rulings, we are not allowed to camwhore at the train station or in the train... because.. they are so damn scared someone will go snap pics of the station and train, and then device a plan to bomb it. Stupid. Anyway, after a 15 minute train ride, we reached the showgrounds. This is an annual event that lasts for only 9 days. Paid $16 for the entrance ticket. Just like the funfair we get back home, except that this is more "grand" and the prizes are more..... pleasant.

Bought a black halo for $3. Was torn in between a purple halo, the devil's headband.. but got this in the end. Mayn and i wanted to buy a pair of wings too but it was up for sale at $10... CRAZY!

Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves la. Bought showbags (see those bags we were carrying?) cause it was damn worth it la. All sorta freebies in it, plus a tote.. all for less than $20! I wanted to get damn a lot of showbags but when i think twice, i don't think it's worth it. After that, we had food tasting at the grand pavillion. Not too bad, you get yogurt, juice, wine, beer, beef jerky, nachos, fruits, chocolates... banana!

After walking around tasting food, we felt a little hungry. So mayn, yenshan and i went scouting for food whilst edwin and pris rested in the pavillion. We craved for pancakes so we bought some.. A plate of two pancakes, with maple syrup and a scoop of ice cream + a fruit of your choice.. obviously we chose bananas! See, cyclone larry destroyed 95% of australia's supply of banana in march when it hit northern queensland.. since then, the price of bananas has literally gone bananas (no pun intended k)! From $2.99 per bunch when i first ate them in february, to $16 per bunch now! Back to story, we were satisfied with our banana pancakes and paid $7.50 for a plate, even though... they only gave us one banana per plate. Wtf. (Pancake guy was hot! ) Mayn got her chicken strips and fries as well and they charge a bottle of coke for $4 but nevermind, since i was in dire need of a drink.. Just paid for it. Sometimes, this exorbitant prices kills.

After eating, we went walking around playing games. Mayn and i wanted to win "my little pony" badly, so we asked this lady where she got her ponies. Some booth selling something like raffle tickets were offering the ponies so we went hunting for the booth. You pay $5, you get two strips of tickets with 5 numbers on each ticket, then peel of the cover, and see if your numbers matches the ones on the poster hung on the booth! We played and played and played (practically burning money) but had no luck. This stupid little kid next to us, who just spent $5 and tore her first cover, shouted "yayyyy!! i won!!" and got her little pony. Wtf wtf wtf! We walked around further and looked for other booths and spent some money.. then, the killer part came. We stopped by this booth, where all you need to do is throw a rubber ball into the basket. Get it twice and you win a soft toy. Knowing that there were a lot of ponies, we decided to give it a try. The man, i swear, knows psychology! Here's why:

Round one: Everyone pays $5 and get three balls. Throw in two balls and we get a soft toy each. GAGAL.

Round two: Everyone pays $5 and get three balls. Throw in one ball and we get two soft toys each. GAGAL.

Round three: Everyone pays $5 and get four balls. Throw in two balls and we get two soft toys each. GAGAL.

Seriously, what kind of game is it? Soooo many chances of succeeding but we didn't! The more he coaxed us, the more we gave in. I know we were silly, but after that right, we felt so guilty. Cause in that span of what? 10 minutes? We all threw $100 away! I know, ridiculous right? *shakes head* He wanted to give us five balls and "one-ball-in" rule but we gave up. We stopped. I think he knows black magic or something!! Hmmmph! Since it was quite late, we decided to go home. When we were exiting the showgrounds, we saw two little booths hidden at the corner.. Selling all the soft toys in the other booths. What the hell man. And... my little pony was up for sale for $30. The big big one ok! Then what the fuck waste $40 on raffle tickets and such trying to get a small measly pony? Should've just bought it right? This is what you call marketing. A scam! Blah~~ All in all, we had fun, i had fun.. but i only felt a little guilty and bad for spending about $100 altogether. Great company!
